Advice on becoming a secondary driver on b/f's auto insurance...?
Hi there A friend of mine took a defensive driving course last year, she is 46 yrs old and got her license last summer. The day she passed her road test, her boyfriend put her on his insurance plan as a secondary driver, and it only cost him another $12 a month. I'm 38 yrs old, have just taken the same defensive driving course and got my license this week. When my boyfriend called his insurance company to have me listed, they quoted him a small fortune to have me as a secondary driver. I wasn't with him when he spoke to his broker I was hoping to get some advice or reasoning regarding this.I'd also like to know if anyone could tell me how much more they have paid for insurance after listing a secondary driver. I have to say that it's extremely discouraging to have paid so much for this course, then find out that I can't drive the only car that's available to me unless I pay nearly $400 dollars in fees until his policy renews... in just over a month Wow Apparently when it renews, the policy will change, and then it will be much cheaper, but not until then... WTF?I should add that I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada... because rates and laws vary from region to region. Here, anyone can drive my b f's car so long as they do not live in the same household... so my friends could drive his car, but I can't. Frustrating
Sent a bill from other party's auto insurance company?
Last year September 05, 09. i got into a car accident , in Oregon. Our car was badly damaged and the other drivers damage was almost non existent. The officer deemed that a police report was not needed. Our insurance covered our damage. But on the 20th of July 2010, The other drivers insurance company sent us a bill for $5000. What can i do in this case? Are they allowed to send a bill? Why doesn't her insurance cover her?I live in Canada, the car was a rental and was covered by Royal Bank of Canada's Visa insurance The Accident was also deemed no fault on both driversmy insurance does not cover 3rd party damages. Does the fact that the police statement stated no fault on both parties matter?The exact accident was that, i rear ended her because she stopped short due to an emergency vehicle passing. And the cop did not file a report because under Oregon law reports are not needed for damages under 1500, but he did file a statement stating neither parties were at fault.

According to my friend, who is 22 and a full time driver with his own car, he only pays $60 a month for auto insurance in the United States. That is incredibly cheap compared to the auto insurance we pay in Canada. I m 21 and a secondary, occasional driver and although I pay $100 a month which is relatively cheap, I m still paying more than my friend.So is it true that American auto insurance is cheaper than Canadian? Well this may sound like a long shot, but I just recently bought my son a 2000 Ford Mustang, Now its insurance time, hes 18, gets A's in school and has had drivers ed. Why do the quotes from Progressive and esurance estimate its going to cost nearly $500 a month, even with a 1990 honda junker it still cost nearly $400 do these prices seem reasonable, i cant recall them being that high, when i first got insurance. or maybe does anybody know any site that has cheper auto insurance? thanks.

In New Jersey your auto insurance can be less expensive if you chose to have the limitation on lawsuit option or Verbal Threshold option. This limitation on lawsuit option means you can only sue for pain and suffering if you had a major loss in the accident like losing an arm, hand, leg, etc. This is what I understand about New Jersey's limitation on lawsuit option. If anyone can make this clearer so I can totally understand this limitation on lawsuit option, I would sincerely appreciate it. Thank you so much for reading my question.
